Take Care of Yourself

selfhelpYesterday I was talking with a friend, when she asked what do I do for myself? To answer, I looked around the room to find myself so I could recognize her and answer. Apparently this wasn't a good sign. Sometimes as a mom, wife, friend, sister, etc, I often get lost and don't know who myself is. I assume it isn't just me who goes through this.

Part of taking care of yourself is doing things you liked doing before you had a family or a job and got lost in taking care of everything else in the world. Do you remember what you enjoyed? Since my talk yesterday I have been working on a list of things I enjoy so I can remember and start doing these things more. Here is my list, I hope you can come up with a list of your own too. It's important to take care of you, because if you don't you can easily end up stressed, miserable, and bitter, and that is much worse.

  • Listening to music

  • watching chick flicks (my favorite movie Pride & Prejudice with Kierra Knightly is like medicine for my soul)

  • writing

  • reading a good book (love story)

  • watching soap operas (for about 20 years I watched soaps General Hospital anyone?)

  • eating (this became somewhat of an addiction and I am working on not being an emotional eater anymore)

Here is a link that might help you find some things you loved when you used to take care of yourself.
